EATONVILLE

Overview

Eatonville is a diverse, family-friendly neighborhood where many still call it “Etobicoke,” thanks to its history and the former Etobicoke City Hall nearby. The area’s past lives on through Eatonville Public School and Eatonville Public Library.

History

Eatonville began as a farming community in the 1800s. Timothy Eaton later purchased much of the land, donating it to the local school, which was renamed Eatonville. The area was developed in the 1950s, and Eatonville School was built in 1955. Peter Shaver’s historic “Applewood House” now stands as a museum at 450 The West Mall.

Lifestyle

Eatonville offers a mix of local and regional shopping. Bloor Street, west of Kipling, has small plazas, markets, and independent shops, while Westmall Bloor Plaza features retail and professional offices. Dundas Street is lined with car dealerships, restaurants, and home improvement stores, plus a mall—Cloverdale Mall, an indoor shopping hub with 100+ retailers and year-round events.

Homes

Eatonville’s east side, developed in the late 1940s and ’50s, features bungalows, Cape Cods, and one-and-a-half-storey homes, with many older bungalows making way for custom builds. The west side, built in the ’60s and ’70s, has a mix of brick bungalows, semis, and large two-storey homes. High-rises and townhouses line main roads like the West and East Malls and Burnhamthorpe Road.

Recreation

Neilson Park Creative Centre on Neilson Drive is a volunteer-run arts hub hosting local art groups, exhibits, and craft sales. Applewood, aka The Shaver Homestead, is a historic 1850s house-turned-museum on The West Mall. Eatonville Public Library offers kids’ storytime and a Tea and Books program for adults. Parks like West Mall, East Mall, Wedgewood, and Cloverdale feature tennis courts, playgrounds, and baseball diamonds, with West Mall Park also offering an ice rink and outdoor pool.

Transportation

Buses along Bloor, Dundas, and major roads connect to Kipling Station for TTC and GO Transit access. Drivers are minutes from Highway 427, with Bloor Street offering a direct route downtown. Pearson Airport is just a 10-minute drive away.
