Overview
Kingsview Village is a family-friendly neighborhood with a strong community vibe, featuring its own school, rec center, church, and park right off Kingsview Boulevard. The single-family homes are home to a diverse mix of people, while the high-rises along Dixon Road are mostly occupied by a large and tight-knit Somali community.
History
The history of Kingsview Village goes back to the 1850s, when the first settler, Thomas Madill, owned a farm along Dixon Road, stretching from Islington to Kipling Avenue. His fieldstone farmhouse, located on Islington Avenue, was the last piece of the area’s pre-subdivision past before it was torn down in 1973.
Lifestyle
Kingsview Village has its basic needs covered by the Westway Centre at Dixon Road and Kipling Avenue. This plaza has a big supermarket, bakery, deli, video store, drugstore, McDonald’s, dollar store, beer store, hardware store, jewelry shop, medical offices, and even a bowling alley and billiards hall. There’s also a busy Somali Meat and Grocery store tucked in the back.
For bigger shopping, the Loblaws at Dixon Road and Islington Avenue has everything from a bakery and deli to a dry cleaner and take-out restaurant.
Homes
Kingsview Village features a mix of bungalows, split-level homes, and two-storey houses, all with front porches and charming details. The homes are on spacious lots with garages or carports and well-kept yards.
East of Islington Avenue, the Fairhaven Drive-Golfwood Heights area, once part of the Weston Golf and Country Club, has homes from the 1950s and ’60s, including Colonial Revival and modern two-storey styles, many with golf course views.
The area also has high-rise apartments on Dixon Road and Islington Avenue, along with some townhouses.
Recreation
Kingsview Village Community School on York Road offers programs for the whole family, like aerobics, Tae Kwon Do, and yoga. It also has room rentals, community meeting space, special events, field trips, and camps. Right across from the school, Kingsview Park has tennis courts, bocce ball, and a playground for kids.
Fairhaven Park, just east of Islington Avenue, has a baseball diamond, sports field, outdoor pool, and a playground, all next to the Weston Golf and Country Club.
Transportation
The buses on Dixon Road, Islington Avenue, and Kipling Avenue connect to the Bloor-Danforth subway. Islington Station links to Mississauga Transit and has an express bus to Pearson Airport. Kipling Station is part of the Go Transit system.
Drivers are just minutes from the Highway 401 on-ramps at Islington and Kipling, and Pearson Airport is only about a five-minute drive away.
