KINGSWAY

Overview

Kingsway Park is one of Toronto’s top west-end neighborhoods, designed with families in mind. It offers spacious homes, walkable streets, and easy access to schools, shopping, and recreation. Nestled in the Humber River Valley, its tree-lined streets and stately homes create a picturesque, peaceful setting.

History

Kingsway Park sits on former church-owned land, leased to farmers until developer Robert Home Smith acquired it in 1908. He envisioned an upscale, English-style garden suburb, but sales were slow until the Bloor Street bridge opened in 1924. Many early residents were mining execs and Toronto business leaders personally encouraged by Smith. His vision shaped Kingsway Park into one of Toronto’s most prestigious neighborhoods.

Lifestyle

Kingsway Village on Bloor Street West offers a charming mix of specialty shops, restaurants, and professional services, with a village-like feel complete with park benches, cast-iron street lamps, and flag-lined boulevards. Dundas Street West, at the north end of the Kingsway, has a more casual shopping vibe, featuring strip plazas with home decor shops, antique stores, craft shops, and even a rare drive-through dry cleaner. Kingsway Mills Plaza on Dundas adds to the mix with small chain stores and specialty food shops.

Homes

Kingsway Park, developed between 1924 and 1947, is home to some of Toronto’s finest Old English-style houses. Featuring stone exteriors, intricate brickwork, leaded glass windows, and decorative details like wrought iron railings, these homes exude charm. The area’s oldest houses, found along Government Road near Dundas, date back to the late 1800s and showcase Victorian and Edwardian architecture, alongside 1940s and ‘50s bungalows.

Recreation

Kingsway Park has great recreation options. The Etobicoke Memorial Pool & Health Club offers fitness programs, while Central Arena hosts skating and hockey leagues. Central Park features lawn bowling, tennis courts, and a baseball diamond. Home Smith Park connects to a scenic 10 km trail along the Humber River. Brentwood Library provides community programs, and the Kingsway Theatre screens classic and new films. Golfers can test their skills at Humber Valley Golf Course, known for its challenging final holes.

Transportation

Kingsway Park residents enjoy easy access to transit, with Royal York and Islington subway stations within walking distance. Islington Station also connects to Mississauga Transit and an express bus to Pearson Airport. Downtown Toronto is about a 20-minute drive via Bloor or Lakeshore, and the airport is just 10 minutes away.
