Overview

History
Sunnylea began in 1803 when Alexander Thompson settled here, later joined by farming families. Some original farmhouses remain on Prince Edward Dr. and Islington Ave. The first Sunnylea school opened in 1907, named by student Edna G. Whitworth. The area was subdivided in the 1930s-40s, leading to a second school in 1942.

Sunnylea residents have easy access to buses on Prince Edward Drive, Royal York Road, and Islington Avenue, linking them to the Bloor-Danforth subway. Drivers are about 15 minutes from downtown Toronto via Lake Shore Boulevard or the Gardiner Expressway, with connections to all major highways.
