Overview
West Deane Park is a peaceful neighbourhood with a great mix of longtime residents and newcomers. The scenic Mimico Creek Valley runs through the area, giving it a bit of a country feel. Locals often spot wildlife like foxes, deer, beavers, hawks, and even coyotes. If you’re a nature lover, you’ll feel right at home here!
History
West Deane Park was farmland until the 1930s when Percy Law bought it for raising cattle and racehorses. He built a grand Colonial Revival home at 59 Beaverbend Rd., along with a coach house, stables, and a farm manager’s house (still standing at 18 Deanewood Cres.). In the 1960s, developer Edmund Peachey transformed the land into the West Deane Park neighbourhood, naming it after his wife’s maiden name.
Lifestyle
West Deane residents have easy access to The East Mall Plaza at Rathburn Rd. and a Loblaw supermarket just south of Burnhamthorpe Rd. For more shopping options, Cloverdale Mall at Highway 427 and Dundas offers over 90 stores, restaurants, and professional services.
Homes
Most homes in West Deane Park were built in the 1960s, featuring ranch-style bungalows, split-levels, and classic Georgian Revival designs—all on spacious lots with private driveways and attached garages. You’ll also find a few row houses and multi-plexes on the outskirts. The Beaverbend Road area was developed later, in the 1980s, with larger, more modern family homes.
Recreation
West Deane Park sits in the beautiful Mimico Creek Ravine Valley, featuring a scenic paved trail perfect for biking and exercise. The park also has a playground, two baseball diamonds, and a shady picnic area. At the north end, you’ll find the Martingrove Tennis Club, where the four courts turn into an artificial ice rink in the winter.
Transportation
Buses on The East Mall and Martingrove Road connect to GO Transit, while Eglinton and Rathburn buses link up with the Yonge-University-Spadina subway. Drivers have quick access to Highway 427, Highway 27, and Highway 401, making it easy to get around the city.
